24 Saturday – twocities Workshops: Jewelry Studio
Introductory class: Saturday, March 24th, 5:00-6:00pm – free of charge.

Take a break from your day with a cup of coffee and a table of glass beads, stone pendants and silver wire. Our new jewelry workshop offers an opportunity to join artist Li Sang as she guides you through the creative process of jewelry making. This hands-on, semi-private class is suited for multiple levels of experience, whether you are looking to hone a new craft or simply longing for a way to relax during the afternoon. Regularly scheduled classes are every 2nd Thursday and 2nd Sunday of the month from 1:00–4:00pm.

A class fee of 500RMB includes a variety of tools and materials and professional instruction. Coffee and tea will be provided.

Classes will be held with a minimum enrollment of 5 people and a maximum of 10. Please RSVP to one week prior to the class date.

17 Friday – twocities Conversations: Sue Anne Tay and The Roving Exhibit
Photographer and Blogger Sue Anne Tay shares her inspiration behind “The Roving Exhibit.” Traveling through older neighborhoods, Sue Anne displays her street photography via portable boards with Shanghai’s long-time residents. Join us as Sue Anne tells stories from the exhibit patrons including their varying impressions of street photography, views on urbanization and the plight of their disappearing neighborhoods.

Program is in English. Doors open at 7:00 pm and close at 7:30 pm. Latecomers will be admitted at intermission.

29 Friday – Concert, 7:30 pm. The Sonnet Song Cycle, featuring the sonnets of William Shakespeare
Washington, DC-based pianist/composer Burnett Thompson returns to Shanghai to present an evening of William Shakespeare’s sonnets of love, beauty and mortality set to original music. Burnett’s ensemble performs a blend of jazz, Viennese song forms, and traditional Chinese melody and instrumentation. This project is the latest in The Silent Shakespeare and the Sonnets series, and this is the premiere performance.

25 Friday – twocities in tune: Composers at the Crossroads
We invite you to attend “twocities in tune: Composers at the Crossroads”, a unique concert/lecture series exploring music that is at the intersection of different styles and origins. Join pianist Steve Sweeting and vocalist Heidi Krenn as they present the music of Kurt Weill, a 20th century German-Jewish composer best known for his work “The Threepenny Opera,” which features the classic tune “Mack the Knife.”

No RSVPs required but doors close promptly at 7:30 pm.

In a casual and intimate setting, host Eva Ting will discuss topics of life and art with guests. Join us for the inaugural event on January 21 as American pianist Steve Sweeting and Eva talk about the process of studying jazz, improvisation and those random moments of revelation in a music life. Steve will perform along the way to illustrate his ideas. Join us for the dialogue and ask Steve questions about art, education, travel, ice cream, or whatever is on your mind.
